   No Hands

This skit is an encouragement to overcome our fears and reach out to others with God’s love. If we are unwilling to open up and give ourselves to others we become closed in on ourselves and end up accomplishing nothing. This skit is a call to DO something!

Characters:     Unhelpful Person, Blind Man, Tourist, Young Boy,
                       Shopper, Young Girl, Football Fan

The Skit: A person enters and stands at the center of the stage. (He could be doing something such as whistling, reading a paper, or simply looking around.) A shopper enters carrying a large stack of packages. As she approaches, she calls out to the person, "Excuse me sir, but could you help me with these packages?" He quickly puts his hands behind his back and sais, "No I don’t think so. You see, I don’t have any hands." The woman doesn’t have time to respond to his lack of assistance. She is more worried about her packages that are dropping all over the place. She continues to struggle on her way. As she exits, the unhelpful person kicks some of the boxes toward her with his feet, but keeps his hands behind his back.

A blind man enters. As he approaches he asks if anyone is there. Trying not to be noticed, the unhelpful person remains quiet until the blind man bumps into him. "Oh, excuse me!" he exclaims, "You didn’t say anything when I called! What are doing there anyway?" The unhelpful person responds, "Nothing, and it’s none of your business anyway!" The blind man asks, "Well, I was just wondering if someone would help me across the street. Would you be so kind as to..." The unhelpful person interrupts him, "I can’t help you! I don’t have any eyes! You’ll just have to make it on your own." "No eyes huh?" the blind man begins to feel his face, "Are you pulling my leg?" The unhelpful person shuts his eyes tightly and pushes away. He shouts, "Get away from me! I can’t help you! I don’t have any eyes!"

A young girl enters sobbing. She approaches the unhelpful person and leans on his shoulder bawling uncontrollable. He leans away uncomfortably, "Do you mind miss?" She sobs, "I just broke up with my boyfriend! He dumped me! What a loser! I just need somebody to listen to me!" She continues to sob and talk about her boyfriend. The unhelpful person steps back, "I’m sorry but I can’t help you. I don’t have any ears." He covers one of his ears with his shoulder. She becomes somewhat angry and begins to cry even more. The stranger switches shoulders to his other ear as the woman becomes angry with him, "You’ve got ears mister! What a loser! I can’t believe this! First my boyfriend dumps me and now a guy tries to make me believe he doesn’t have any ears!" She walks off bawling.

A tourist enters and asks the unhelpful person for directions to Hollywood. He blinks his eyes and sais, "Uh, I don’t know. You see, I ain’t got no brain!" (His speach resembles that of a very stupid person.) The person presses him further, but he continues to act dumb. Finally the person exits.

A football fan enters shouting at the top of his lungs, "Wow! Awesome! The Vikings just won the Super Bowl! It’s amazing!" He runs over to the unhelpful person and shouts, "Give me a high five!" The unhelpful person crumples down into a ball, with his hands behind his back, eyes shut tight, and a shoulder still trying to cover up one ear. The football fan leans down and shouts into his ear, "Not a fan of the Vikings!?" He responds in his dumb voice, "Duh, I’m not here. I’m just not here." The fan exits still excited!

A young boy enters. He walks up to the unhelpful person who is now crumpled into a ball on the floor. Before he exits, the boy sais, "Wow, I wonder what happened to that guy?" The unhelpful person is left all alone in the room. He responds, "Nothing, nothing at all."

The end.

Note
:
Feel free to embellish your characters to add to this skit. They could dress the parts and adlib their lines to make this skit a lot more interesting to watch.

Biblical Emphasis:  Matthew 25:31-46 We are called to reach out to others with God’s love.

Discussion Starters:

1.    Why is it difficult to reach out and help some people?
2.    Share a time when you helped someone or were helped by a stranger.
3.    Why did you/they help? How did it make you feel?
4.    Discuss ways to do random acts of kindness in your family, school, or neighborhood.
