There's nothing like a talent show to bring out the crazy and unique side of a youth group. Sometimes it's just what is needed to break down the cliques and show that everyone is okay after all. This section includes ideas on how to use skits to highlight special events and organize talent shows. You'll find ideas for a variety of activities including talent shows, dinner theaters, Sunday school openings, vacation Bible school programs and much more. Ideas to Get You Started: Try This! Announce an upcoming talent show for one of your regularly scheduled youth nights. Have your youth sign up for skits both silly and serious. Begin the night with the goofiest skits, then move into a few skits with a message near the end. Close the night with a talk or discussion based on one of the skits. Try This! Have a Lock In complete with a talent show. Better yet, during your Lock In, schedule a youth worship service at midnight. Incorporate a skit idea based on the theme of the night. Or, have your kids sign up in groups to each create a part of the service. This is a great thing to do as an event with other area churches too. Try This! Schedule an evening or all night event with some other area churches. Along with the bowling, pizza and games, schedule a talent show. Each church youth group can contribute one serious skit besides the goof-ball ideas the kids will inevitably come up with. Arrange the talent show to have the fun skits first, then move into a more serious vein with Skits With a Message. Try This! Schedule an afternoon sports event such as softball at the school, volleyball at the beach, or a picnic in the park. Begin the activity with a devotion time complete with a skit. This activity can also be done as an activity with other church youth groups. Each church can share a skit for the others. Try This! Put on a special talent show for your kids' parents, or invite the entire congregation. Work up a big program complete with a special host, streamers, judges, awards and commercials. Try This! Put on a dinner theater for the youth group parents. Think of it! Free food and entertainment! How could anyone resist? Try This! Have a talent show just for the younger kids in your church. You'll get a huge turnout for this kind of event, complete with kids' friends and parents! Publicize it in you community. Invite other churches. Have your youth group make sure everyone gets an invitation. Make the evening complete with games, music, prizes and snacks! For the best turnout, schedule this event at a time when the younger kids are already going to be at church for their regularly scheduled meetings. Try This! Put on a talent show for your church grade school or day care center. Try This! Make arrangements to have your senior high youth do the Sunday school opening program once a month. Work a skit into the day's theme, along with some music and an overall message for the children. Try This! Have a special Sunday School Talent Show where each grade or class contributes a skit to the show. This could be an end of the year reward for another great year of Sunday school. Throw in some awards and ice cream and you have a sure winner! Try This! You've got some great volunteers for your Vacation Bible School program. Now take it one step further. These volunteers are willing to do anything. They're bored with the long hot summer! They want some excitement! Well, why not give them a challenge? Put these awesome volunteers on-stage and in the spotlight for a skit performance during the opening V.B.S. program each day. They'll love it. And a hundred screaming fans all calling their names is just what they need! Skits With A Message can match just about any V.B.S. theme, or you can adapt a skit to fit your specific need. |
