"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you. I will remove your old heart of stone and give you a new heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit in you and move you to follow My decrees and help you to keep my laws." - Ezekiel 36:26-27Life can get pretty nasty. You have a bad day, someone says something that cuts deep, you get angry and bitter, then you completely shut down or lash out just to release the tension. You know, youre angry. Its not what you want or what you know you should do, but it just happens. And then theres problems, theres broken relationships again, and you dont know how to fix it. Your heart gets as cold as a stone. Ive felt that way too many times before. But how do I pull out of it and get back into the light? Its never just me, its God who works on my heart - softening it, breaking it down, replacing my hard heart with one thats softened up, hurt a bit, but useful. Sometimes a scripture verse speaks to me and softens my heart - like Ezekiel 36:26, "And I will put My Spirit in you and move you to follow My decrees..." The Spirit speaks softly in my darkness, and opens me up to the voice of God once again. Awhile back I remember walking a dark, lonely path back to my place feeling mistreated and frustrated with life. A good friend noticed what was going on and followed me. We talked for an hour or two about deeper things, deeper than the superficial stuff most of us usually talk about. I dont exactly know how, but just talking and listening made me feel better. I think weve got to learn how to recognize those times in our lives, and in the lives of those people God has placed within our reach. When our friends need to talk, we have an opportunity to breathe life into their hearts of stone, to give them hope, and to share our faith with them. May we be open and listening to the still small voice of the Spirit leading us to share our lives with those around us on a daily basis. May this be your prayer and your life work! Take these steps:1. Read the scripture again and let the
Holy Spirit speak to your heart. |
